Crestfall is a skirmish game designed for quick play and no book keeping.

To play, choose up to 10 miniatures or models per side, set up your table with as much terrain as you see fit (the more the better). Line the minis up on each side's edge. Or arrange them on the terrain to begin mid-action or play out a specific scenario.

Grab small tokens/coins to track moves and at least three tokens/coins to track special abilities.

Unlike other skirmish games you DO NOT have to activate each model per turn. You can spend all your moves on one or two model if you wish. This allows for more versatility and heroic actions by models.

Uses 2d6's. Modifiers apply based on other factors and there is an ability that uses 2d8, but for everything else you are good with only d6's!

Use any models you want. Crestfall is a CAYA (come as you are) game which means the models come into battle with what they have. No elaborate weapon tables. Models fit within four generic archetypes Leader, Soldier, Ranged and Defender.

Grab some tokens. Moves are spent using tokens. Use pennies, checkers, or mini bases. As you move, spend a move token. Special abilities are the same, spend them to use a special ability. Gain more special abilities by capturing objectives!

No tape measures. All movement is based around a popsicle stick (or five 1-inch grid squares if you use a battle mat).

Example of a 4 mini game. This is not a virtual table top game, but could translate well to virtual play.

I have a question. A player can choose 10 units. Wouldn't it be interesting to limit the use of certain types of Defender units. Regarding the Soldier, he is better. So, I don't see any advantage in having the Soldier in my army, since to defend, the Defender has +2 and attacks with the same 2D6 as a Soldier.

Interesting point. It is something to consider!

So far, that's the only thing I've felt was unbalanced.

Hey, I've made an Spanish Translation of the game! I hope you don't mind.

The translation itself is already finished, and at the moment I'm working on a better layout.

Very cool game! I really liked the minimalism.

Two things that weren't so clear to me:

  1. Does the model that delivers the objective token to the edge of the board leave or remain in the game?
  2. In the Rally special ability, is it one model (the leader?) motivating others so this one wouldn't receive the benefit, or multiple nearby models motivating each other?

Overall, I loved the game. I'm just wondering if the move structure wouldn't allow a player (possibly the first) to secure an objective token simply by activating a single model with 10 actions and not attacking any opponents along the way.

Thank you! The model that delivers the token is not out of the game, they can come back. Rally can be any character. They bonus applies to anyone nearby.

The move structure could conceivably allow for that. If that one character wants to make a dash for an objective. But objectives should be in relatively hard to reach places so even 10 moves could get them there and maybe pick it up. But they likely couldn't get all the way back.

Thank you again!! Please let me know if you have any other questions.

I'm in the mood to make a Crestfall hack. Do you allow this under any license? :)

Yes of course! Creative Commons 4.0 seems most appropriate? Haven't had anyone ask before : )

CC is great for this. :)

CC-BY?

Yes I think that one would work! https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
